New Video From Fleet Foxes

Directed by Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold's brother Sean, the new video from the Foxes is nothing short of hypnotic. The animated animals' saga is backed by "The Shrine/An Argument", a great cut from the Foxes 2011 LP Helplessness Blues.

It definitely gives a nod to Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are but it ends on a decidedly darker note....check it out

Richard Swarbrick's Animated Footy

Richard Swarbrick gives a new dimension to the beautiful game with his wonderful broad stroke animations. A multi-media director based in London, Swarbrick has done animations for newspapers such as The Sun, commercials and films.

'Bale' chronicles Tottenham Hotspur's Gareth Bale as he flies across the field completing goal after goal against Inter-Milan. The creative process begins with chosen shots of live action footage. Then Swarbrick sets his own composed music as a backdrop and begins the painting process. Once completed the paintings are strung together using After Effects software to create focus changes and backgrounds.

Rizzle Kicks: Brighton's Best Hiphop

A new hip-hop outfit from Brighton called Rizzle Kicks is really making a splash in the UK. The group is made up of just two dudes, singer Harley "Sylvester" Alexander-Sule and rapper Jordan "Rizzle" Stevens. The boys have been nominated for Best Newcomer, Best Video and Best HipHop Grime at this years Mobo Awards. ALSO they bagged a nomination for Best British Single at the Radio1 Music Awards.
Not to mention that their single "Down With the Trumpets" has broken the top 10 on the charts recently.

Their early '90s vibe on thier album 'Stereo Typical' attracted the attention of producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad, who produced A Tribe Called Quest...a collaboration is afoot.

One of our favorite Loyno artists just released a retro video to accompany a catchy track from his Endless Summer Mixtape.

Check out the rest of the Endless Summer Mixtape on Eazy's Website. He sampled lots of doo-woop and 50's pop tunes, added some drums and polished it all off with his signature laid back delivery.

MMJ at Lollapalooza

The best live act in America just graced Chigaco's Lollapalooza Festival in Grant Park. On their Website they've posted live footage of a few of the songs including an inspired version of One Big Holiday. 

Also, MMJ just announced a string of European tour dates. That way the folks across the pond can experience the thrill of a concert led by Jim James. That's at least one export that we can be proud of.

Neon Indian: New Stuff

Neon Indian, also known as Alan Palomo, has set the release date for his new album Era Extrana. On September 13th we'll see the follow up to Palomo's debut Psychic Chasms.

The first single Fallout has gotten some mixed reviews. Its rather different from the cartoon synth that we came to love in the first album Psychic Chasms...see what you think.

Also, earlier this year Palomo hopped over the pond to Helsinki to film a video accompaniment to a preview of Heart: Attack... another track from the upcoming album. Beautiful clips and a more interesting tune from Palomo, can't wait for the full track.

Towa Tei's "Sunny"

Japanese house/lounge producer Towa Tei has been making waves since he made his US debut in 1990 as a member of "Deee-Lite" (Groove is in the Heart!). When Deee-Lite split up he relocated to his native Tokyo and began creating bubbly yet eccentric pop melodies and working the Tokyo club circuit as a house DJ. You've probably heard music from his previous 5 releases on Olympus and Mitsubishi commercials, or on any of the movies he's created soundtracks for, or in a club in Kyoto...

His 6th release Sunny is a great one that reminds me somewhat of Stereolabs Chemical Chords. Mixing ambient textures with breakbeats female vocals from Yukihiro Takahashi and Yurico.

And here's an older track from his first album "Future Listening" (1995). Featuring none other than bossa nova beauty ...Bebel Gilberto.

Breakbot

Yet another great artist from Ed Banger Records. Ed Banger is a French techno label that is home to artists like Justice, SebastiAn, Uffie and of course..Breakbot. Scruffy, gangly and super-funky Breakbot brings a sensual sensibility to techno. He just released his first EP called Baby I'm Yours. The title track and accompanying video are posted below. Below that is another gem off the same EP called Make You Mine. 

The Europeans embraced disco in a way that we on this side of the pond never did.... and thanks to a shameless appreciation for the oft-ridiculed genre they're coming up with great stuff like this. Makes me think twice before I hate on Justin Bieber. Not.


Recommended if you like Daft Punk, Justice, Disco (the genre), Dancing (the activity), etc etc

The Snarkiest Sh*#t

Snarky Puppy is a band that claims Brooklyn as its hometown, but is comprised of sidemen from Snoop Dogg, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Marcus Miller, etc. So you'd expect something funky. But it's more than that...

I caught Snarky Puppy at the Blue Nile on Frenchman St. a couple of weeks ago and was awash with amazement (Just like I expected to be). The 9 piece band was the tightest thing to hit the Blue Nile stage in a long while. Local drummer Jason Marsalis joined in on a few choice tunes and they also brought up Matt Perrine to work his Sousaphone Magic. They played songs mostly from their latest album Tell Your Friends, but also dropped some new joints and a few oldies.


They call it "Music for Your Brain and Booty" I like to call it Intelli-funk. Whatever you call it...hit play  and enjoy

And you thought legendary organmaster Booker T. had had his biggest hit with Green Onions...

No Way Jose. His forthcoming album "The Road From Memphis" is going to surprise and delight many who may only be familiar with his 'Green Onions' period. It drops on May 10th and involves some interesting collaborators. The National's lead singer Matt Berninger, Lou Reed, Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) and The Roots are just some of the artists involved.
